Fun Ways To Engage in Literacy for the Summer !
**Check out the public library's summer reading bookclub!***
- Use sidewalk chalk to write happy grams on the driveway.
- While at the beach, write sight words or letters in the sand by "walking".
- Record your child reading a book and have them listen to themselves. Keep practicing and then record again so your child can hear the improvement.
- For older students, clip an article from the paper and cut the paragraphs apart. Have your child read the paragraphs and put them back in order.
- Create a "Family Reading Night" based on a theme, have a dinner or dress up to go with your theme.
- Play "Reading Tag". Select a book that your child knows many of the words. The parent reads the book and when you want your child to read a word, you tap them.
- Hide an inexpensive treat your child will enjoy. Write a list of directions your child must follow to find the treat, or draw a map he/she must read to find it. You may have them read several clues before he/she finds the treat.
